Head in the Cloud

“My thesis, currently going by the title ‘Head in the Clouds’, is a study of my own thought processes as they relate to how I create artwork. Imagery of planes, ocean, sky, and power lines are recurring connected themes in my work. These ideas represent the mental state of being in the present moment. The idea of flightiness versus being grounded presents itself often in conversations surrounding my current work. I have been using found imagery relating to airplanes to create digital collages and patterns, and I have been very interested in the overlay of colors and textures. These collages, intersected with ideas pertaining to mental health, will be used to create a series of streetwear-related designs that promote being in the present moment. I will continue to build up this collection of designed digital imagery to use later as a part of my streetwear design process.”

My main goals for this project are:

1.
I want to make something that represents me and comes from the heart. It has become clear to me that I often try to hide who I am. I mistake self-sabotage for being humble, and this affects my artwork greatly. There are many artistic opportunities that I have ignored due to my personal fears of people “knowing me” and I would like to conquer this fear through my thesis. Not only do I want to share my personal thoughts through my work, but I also want to try to build a community through this project. I would love to be very active on social media throughout the entire creation of my thesis, because this is something that I have been afraid to try in the past.

2.
I am looking to change/switch up the direction of what “streetwear style” can mean. I’ve noticed that a lot of small up-and-coming streetwear brands base all their ideas on suffering or the feeling of being alone. I want to see a streetwear style that focuses on healing instead of hurt. Therefore, I plan to create something that is different from the current market of streetwear style. I want this project to be an amalgamation of what popular streetwear brands have done successfully, but with my own “stamp” on the industry.
