NASA compositions, version 2

These are all different versions of two different photographs, mixed with some of my digital collages throughout the semester. I made these as the second "version" of my NASA compositions presented a few classes ago.

working with less materials

Working with the photos and materials I already have instead of collecting more reference. First image is where I ended up, and the last image is where I began.

older trial piece

I messed with this trial piece more, I'm still not the happiest with how it came out but it's better than my first attempt on this combo of images/words that I tried back in October.

reference pictures

Some pictures I took on my phone to use as reference in future pieces... I was thinking of incorporating my "neon" works into more minimal color palettes, and I wanted to use these photos for references for both color and where to display my work.

Neon concepts

I have been messing around with the layout of some of my older pieces, and trying to get them to fit to the 4:5 instagram ratio. In the process, I created some more minimal pieces, that focus less on the words and more on the abstraction of an individual image. All of the concepts seen below are created from the same image, just distorted in different ways. I'd like to continue in this direction, but add a more muted color palette to the mix to make these neon designs pop.

Trying to be more experimental

I was thinking about our conversation the other day talking about work that has an added element of 3D. We looked at Caroline Bagenal's work with string on postcards, and it gave me the idea to work more physical rather than digital. I also leaned into the postcard idea and made these:

Sky references

Some poorly-shot iPhone photos to use for reference when I actually go out to shoot with my camera. The  shots/ideas are all things I frequently draw in my sketchbook.

More patterns and messing with "Atlantic Flyer" font

I tried to use my scanned materials of NASA letters and NASA billing stamps to make some collages with different color schemes. I ended up making this really cool neon patchwork pattern that reminds me somewhat of a quilt. Going forward, I had the idea that I could scan a stitched pattern to digitally "patch" this collage together. I messed with the original "Atlantic Flyer" 60s-style text again, just to test how objects can interact using different transparency options on illustrator. Next, I want to add some power lines from my sketchbook to this pattern.

Color Overlay in Photos

I've been in a creative rut with the idea of making more collages, so I decided to mess around with photos instead to keep myself moving. I used the color collages I posted in the last post as overlays for photos I took of my roommate. I definitely got some more inspiration from creating these images.
