Expression / Communication
21 May 2021

I will be researching primarily the English language, the vernacular of the United States, and the etymology of such. I am interested in discovering the roots of modern English vocabulary, words and phrases, and understanding their popularity and usage over time, and how their meanings or connotations change throughout eras. Various forms of media will be a part of my research, such as books, movies, and music. I will be looking at my favorite writers, such as Robert Heinlein, Theta Burke, Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury, and the way in which they use language in their works to communicate ideas. I will also be looking at my favorite musicians such as David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Joan Jett, the Pixies, and more, to understand how they use language and their forms of expression.

I don’t want to limit the mediums in which I will work, but I know I will be exploring and manipulating typography, along with digital and analog collage, possibly printmaking and letterpress printing. This work interests me because I have always been interested in language, both written and spoken, particularly because of my learning disability Nonverbal Learning Disorder; language and writing has always been my strong suits over other forms of communications.
